Hello Pardesio and future pardesio 🙂

So, you want to begin your apprenticeship in Germany as a foreigner? You’re in luck! I recently attended an Azubi Speed Dating event at IHK Frankfurt, and I learned tons of valuable insights into how companies are hiring apprentices – especially from abroad.

Applying for an Apprenticeship in Germany for Foreigners? Yes, You Can!

Good news for all of you considering an apprenticeship in Germany as a foreigner: many companies are open to hiring directly from overseas! I even submitted my nephew’s CV (he’s still in Pakistan) to several companies, and they were interested! If you’re keen, you can apply too – I’ve shared some useful links to companies at the end.

Language Skills – The Key to Success

If you’re aiming for a technical or trade apprenticeship (like electricians or mechanics), you’ll need B2-level German. For office or management positions, C1-level German is the standard. You can start with B1 for your visa, but companies typically expect B2, so be sure to polish up your German before applying.

Shortage Occupations in Germany – A Huge Opportunity for Foreigners

Germany has a list of shortage occupations (Mangelberufe), which means these jobs are in high demand. If you’re skilled in one of these fields, you’ll have a higher chance of landing an apprenticeship. Here are some key professions currently on the list:

  1. Healthcare: Nurses, doctors, physiotherapists.
  2. IT & Engineering: Software developers, engineers.
  3. Skilled Trades: Electricians, plumbers, construction supervisors.
  4. Education: Early childhood educators, teachers.
  5. Transport: Heavy truck drivers, bus operators.

For those in these sectors, the path to starting an apprenticeship in Germany can be much smoother. Check out this Mangelberufe List for more details(Degreeola).

Pro-Tip: Preparation is Key!

Companies want to see that you’ve researched their business and the specific apprenticeship role. Dive into the details about what they do, how big they are, and what tasks you’ll be doing. It’ll show them you’re serious about this opportunity.
