Hello, my fellow Pakistanis in the UAE! 💚 If you’re a skilled worker looking to move to Germany, I’ve got you covered! Today I’ll guide you through the process of applying for a German work visa from the UAE. Whether you’re an engineer, IT specialist, healthcare professional, or any other skilled worker, this guide will help make the journey smoother and (hopefully) a bit more fun!
1. Check if You’re Eligible for a Work Visa
Germany loves skilled workers! But before anything, check if your profession is in demand. Germany has a special “Skilled Workers Immigration Act” (Fachkräfteeinwanderungsgesetz), which gives skilled workers from non-EU countries a shot at working in Germany. Professions in high demand include:
- Engineers
- IT specialists
- Healthcare professionals (nurses, doctors)
- Skilled trades (electricians, plumbers, etc.)
Here’s a full list of in-demand professions in Germany.
2. Find a Job in Germany
Before you apply for a visa, you’ll need a job offer. Some awesome platforms where you can find jobs are:
- Indeed Germany (Filter for English-speaking jobs too!)
- StepStone (A huge job portal in Germany)
- LinkedIn (Build your profile for German recruiters)
Once you find a job and the employer is willing to hire you, they’ll give you a job contract—that’s your golden ticket to applying for the visa!
3. Check Language Requirements
While some international companies in Germany work in English, knowing German will definitely boost your chances. Depending on the job, you may need at least B1 level German. If you don’t have it yet, now’s the perfect time to start learning.

4. Prepare Your Documents
To apply for a work visa, you’ll need:
- Passport
- Job contract from a German employer
- Proof of qualifications (degrees, certificates, etc.)
- Proof of work experience (if applicable)
- German language proficiency certificate (if required for your job)
- Health insurance (Yes, you’ll need health insurance coverage even before you land in Germany! You can apply for temporary travel health insurance.)
You can find all the document requirements on the German Embassy website in the UAE.
5. Apply for the Work Visa
Now it’s time for the big step: applying for your visa! In the UAE, this is done through the VFS Global office. You’ll need to book an appointment online, submit your documents, and attend an in-person interview.
6. Attend the Interview
For the visa interview, it’s important to be well-prepared. The consulate may ask about your job offer, qualifications, and how you plan to settle in Germany. If everything goes well, you’ll get your visa in a few weeks!
7. Moving to Germany!
Once your visa is approved, congratulations! 🎉 You’ll be ready to start your new life in Germany. But don’t forget the essentials:
- Register your address within 2 weeks of arriving in Germany.
- Open a German bank account (you’ll need this for your salary!).
- Get permanent health insurance as soon as you settle down.
